What an off-putting painting...

— Garry

Separation is one of Guertena's paintings located in the Violet Area in the game Ib. It depicts what appears to black silhouettes being torn apart (alternatively, red figures being torn apart). The image is set against a red (or black) background, surrounded by a dark red inner frame and a silver outer frame with red corners.

When the lights go out and Garry attempts to use his lighter in order to see in the dark, the lights will switch back on, and Separation's name plate will read "S T O P," and the words "DON'T KILL ME" will have appeared. The events in this room may foreshadow Mary's demise in Forgotten Portrait, Memory's Crannies and Promise of Reunion.

This painting likely foreshadows the separation of Garry from Ib as a result of Mary's resentment of their relationship, as well as the her acknowledgement of the threat that Garry poses due to the fact that he possesses a lighter. As the lighter is a deadly weapon against Mary, the painting may well portray Mary's thoughts of her feeling threatened and her wish for the removal of Garry from their group.
